Dublin

The detailed design is a marriage of old and new. The central triskele motif is one of the most recognizable symbols of Celtic art. The triskele is surrounded by a ring of doves which in the Celtic Christian tradition represent the resurrection and immortality. The vibrant color combinations of reds and oranges, accented with black, white and gold detail present a modern accent.

Description

This design was inspired by the Book of Durrow a close cousin of the Book of Kells. The addition of small leaves to the pre-Christian motif of the triskele is a distinctive feature of “insular” Celtic art.  The branches of the Celtic triskele are comprised of interlocking spirals which appear in motion. Does this triskele design bears similarities to the principal of fractal growth we see in nature today? Were The Celts of ancient Ireland also aware of a life force at work in our universe where all nature appears in continuous motion? In Celtic tradition, the dove holds significance as a symbol of peace, purity, and divine guidance. Often associated with goddesses such as Brigid, the dove represents qualities of love, fertility, and nurturing. It is also seen as a messenger of the divine, carrying messages between the earthly realm and the spiritual world. In Celtic mythology, doves are sometimes depicted as companions to deities or as symbols of their presence. Their gentle nature and soothing cooing are emblematic of harmony and tranquility, making them revered creatures in Celtic culture. Additionally, the dove’s white plumage symbolises purity of heart and spirit, reflecting its role as a symbol of hope and renewal.
