The off centered position of the design featuring Celtic motifs to include spirals and animals combined with the wrapped text add a contemporary element to the composition. The contrasting colors chosen for the Celtic symbols, richly embellished in gold are in keeping with the ornate manuscript artwork of the middle ages in Ireland.

Description

This design was inspired by the Lindisfarne Gospels a close cousin of the Book of Kells. This manuscript was created in Lindisfarne off the coast of Scotland by an Irish missionary in the 8th century. From the 5th to the 9th centuries Ireland was a centre of Christian monasticism, with monasteries serving as hubs of learning, literacy, and religious devotion. Irish monks such as St. Patrick, St. Columba, and St. Brigid played key roles in spreading Christianity throughout Ireland and beyond. These monastic communities also preserved and transmitted classical knowledge including literature, theology, philosophy, and the arts. This occurred during a time when much of Europe was experiencing upheaval and decline. The combination of spiritual devotion and intellectual pursuit in Ireland during this period earned it the enduring reputation of being a land of saints and scholars.
