Description

The ancient Celts of Ireland’s past had a great reverence for nature. Animals were believed to be friends and teachers who taught us how to live in harmony with nature. As a mark of respect the Celts created ornate animal symbols which were later incorporated into the designs of medieval manuscripts.

This design features the two Celtic elements of interlace and stylised animals. Interlace is one of the most recognisable Celtic designs. The Celtic principal of an endless ribbon is believed to represent the interconnection of past, present and future. The universe is perceived as one giant interlace.
